American Midol: On This Day in History – The Day the 'Friends' Ship Sunk

What are you doing today?

If you're George Clooney, you're celebrating your 43rd birthday.

If you're Paula Jones, you remember that 10 years ago you filed a suit against President William Jefferson Clinton for a naughty-naughty you say he committed in 1991.

History buffs recall Chief Crazy Horse's surrender to U.S. troops (1877), the Hindenburg disaster (1937), and Joseph Stalin's ascent to Soviet premiership (1941).

Hardcore sports fans know it's the 50th anniversary of the first four-minute mile (1954), and the 89th anniversary of Babe Ruth's first major league home run (1915).

Are you a rock-n-roller? You might be interested to know that Keith Richards gave birth to Satisfaction in a Florida hotel room on this day in 1965...and that Paul Simon went on tour sans Garfunkel for the first time in 1973.

And if you're one of the Fortunate Six from Friends, you might be a little out of sorts, because just ten years ago you were wondering how to spend your first $22,000-per-episode paycheck...And now you find yourself leaving a gig that pays a cool million bucks for each 22.5-minute show.

Two hundred thirty-six shows over ten seasons. Thrice as many hairstyles. Fifty times as many make-out sessions.

Of course, you're still young, sexy, and talented, so you're sure you'll do fine...

But, as the former cast of Seinfeld knows all too well, not even the most popular and talented are guaranteed smooth sailing all the way.

Will today mark the end of something great, or the beginning of something even better?

Well, Dear Reader – I'll ask one more time, just for kicks:

What are YOU doing today?

Mark it down. You just never know what the next 10 years might bring.
