A Dysfunctional Family of Five Reviews...Serenity!

Joss Whedon creates cults the way some guys create pottery. Seriously, you ever watch a man throw a clay pot? The wife can't stop talking about the one at the craft fair wearing the "Go Climb a Rock" T-shirt with the torn-off sleeves and the slightly askew head bandana. Oh, and there's this movie to review with no one you've ever heard of, unless you watched that canceled Firefly TV show.

Sis: [Ditched the movie, certain that her nerdy-hot ex-boyfriend would be there; secretly watched Driven: Britney Spears VH1 special at home instead.]

Mom: It's a good thing she didn't come. He's here with his new nerd girlfriend, and I guess it's true what they say about nerd girls trying harder. I haven't seen her head for the last twenty-five minutes.

Bro: I can't believe the high school A/V Club has reserved seating for this! I wonder if I could get in their club if I showed them my home movies of the Massacre on Red Ant Hill? It was bloodier than The Passion of the Christ!

Dad: [Dressed as Jerry Stiller/Frank Costanza and walked through the crowd yelling "Serenity now!" in an attempt at humor. He was escorted from the theater by an off-duty police officer.]

Baby: This reminded me a bit of the X-Files movie - a smart flick that manages to pander to the fanatics without alienating the average moviegoer. If only Winnie-the-Pooh had that kind of class. I was totally lost until Dad read The House at Pooh Corner to me.

Verdict: Matinee. And don't leave the wife behind at the craft fair.
