Bush Seeks Congressional Medal of Honor for Scarred Liver, Saving Co-ed From Pool
Veterans for Justice for Vietnam War Related Program Activities have proposed to Congressman Tom DeLay (R-Texas) that President George Bush be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in the Texas Air National Guard.
Citing scans of the Bush liver, which had preliminarily been diagnosed with cirrhosis and had been recently unearthed as part of his military record, Congressman DeLay said "a bad liver is the sign of a good Texan."
Further cited in the petition to Congress was the President's work in establishing the "first and only Guard unit to have its own USO cantina."
DeLay reaffirmed the need for a cantina at the time by recounting the dangerous flights the Texas Air National Guard took over the Gulf of Mexico hunting for North Vietnamese infiltrators. "This was clearly a Vietnam-program-related activity which went a long way to aid our effort at the time," said DeLay.
Punctuating the President's bravery, Bunny Fernwell from Abilene, Texas, testified that "Junior" had rescued her from a swimming pool one evening. "He looked terrible after one of those long flights," said Bunny. "And even though his foot was sore from dropping a keg on it, he ignored his own safety. He was funny. He called me his Mae West...get it? It was like that 'Wonderful Life ' movie, we all fell in. I called him 'Champagne George'. He was a hoot."
DeLay recalled that the President had told him that he personally established the cantina with "a bottle of tequila, a senorita and a golf cart."
"Tough times deserve tough action," said DeLay of the President. "I will be formalizing this to Congress before the upcoming Republican Convention. Remember, the President carries his scar to this day."
