Bush Brings Hope, Finger-Licking BBQ Sauce to the Masses
President George W. Bush paid another visit to parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast which were ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, flying over the hardest-hit neighborhoods in the air-conditioned Air Force One.
"To believe these good people are surviving in this heat, with still no adequate supply of food and water, is truly disgusting," said Bush, taking a swig from his two-liter bottle of Arkansas Spring Water. "We have got to do better for these people, and we will."
As the president flew over portions of New Orleans, Bush and the White House press corps were treated to honey barbecued chicken sandwiches and glasses of iced tea.
"Never before have so many God-Bless-American citizens suffered so greatly," said Bush, his mouth full of chicken, "and we will help them."
Bush later visited a prayer center in Baton Rouge, shaking hands with the crowd as well as signing T-shirts and hats. After shaking the president's hand, some local residents were seen licking their own hands in pure ecstasy.
"He had barbecue sauce on his hand," said one resident who wished not to be identified. "It was just a drop, but it was barbecue sauce. Do you know how long it's been since I've tasted barbecue sauce? And he brought it here – to us – on his own hands. He's our savior."
"Help is on the way," Bush told the crowd, wiping bread crumbs off his jacket. "As long as any life is in danger, we'll be working day and night to make things right."
After his visit to the prayer center, Bush flew off to his ranch in Texas to ride mountain bikes with Lance Armstrong for the second time in a month.
