Popular Humor Site Wins Seven Satire Awards, Loses Half-Day Fridays Jan 24 2005 The satirical news, politics and pop culture website DeadBrain.com (http://www.DeadBrain.com) won "Best Established Site" and six other top honors in The Satire Awards (http://www.TheSatireAwards.com), a competition for humor websites, with a membership of over 75 organizations in the US and abroad. "It's a tremendous honor, and we're exceedingly grateful," said DeadBrain.com Editor Allen Voivod. "2004 was all work and no play at DeadBrain headquarters and in our satellite contributor bureaus. Now that we've won, I think we can all agree half-day Fridays are off the table if we want a repeat performance." The Satire Awards recognize outstanding achievement in a variety of categories. "Basically, we're the 'Hot or Not' of the satire world," said Creu, one of the competition's two founders - and who prefers, like Cher and Prince before him, to go by a single monosyllabic name. Creu congratulated DeadBrain.com and the other winners on "doing an absolutely awesome job on their sites and their writing." Most often compared in slant and style to The Onion, DeadBrain.com also won for Best Overall Article, Most Believable Article, Best Celebrity Article, Best Presidential Article, Best Sports Article, and Best Related Picture. The DeadBrain brand started in the UK in 2001, and DeadBrain.com (the US Edition) launched in 2003. Voivod was tapped to helm the US site after writing "The Rumsfeld Diaries," a series of articles lampooning US/Iraq relations, conservative political players and liberal conspiracy theorists, for the British site. A publication deal for that series is in the works. The Satire Awards were founded by people "who have always been interested in reading great satire articles." As for those who take life too seriously to read quality satire on the Internet, Creu said, "They need to take a step back…and leave the rest of us alone to have a good time." Voivod applauded the efforts of Creu and company in reaching out to the online satire community. "They get it," he said. "They understand the sacred responsibility to ferret out hypocrisy - left, right, center, or entirely off the board - and to point it out in a comedic manner. Adieu."
