Who do YOU think would win?
U. of Kansas
The Chiefs
If they all kill each other, we all win
And if they do, God will sort them out
Or not
The University of Kansas, whose athletes have been in a series of bar fights and assaults, has challenged the Kansas City Chiefs, who have had five players in bar brouhahas, in a battle for fisticuff supremacy.

"We're hoping to convince ESPN that they should televise it. It should be quite an extravaganza," said KU spokesman Lew Frederick. "It's not every day that you can get such well-conditioned athletes to show their fighting prowess.

"If ESPN won't, we may go to pay-per-view," Frederick added. "Like almost all college athletic departments, we need to raise money any way we can. It'll be way better than those televised wrestling shows."

In recent months, KU has had a football player dismissed from the team for battery; a basketball player stabbed in the leg and seriously injured after a bar brawl; another football player who allegedly beat a 46-year-old couple at a country-music concert; and a basketball player who was hit in the head with a flashlight during a bar fight.

The Chiefs recently had five players experiencing brushes with the law - including one who refused to come down from a music speaker until police threatened him with a Taser, and a kicker who allegedly broke a bar patron's nose.

"We know the Chiefs have some tough, hardened athletes, and they would likely be the favorites," Frederick said. "But what our kids lack in experience, they make up in toughness. I mean, when you punch out a 46-year-old man and his 46-year-old wife, you've got to be tough - or crazy or something."

Frederick said KU was negotiating with the Chiefs "for home-bar advantage. We figure if we can get them over here in Lawrence, which is only 45 minutes from their home turf at Arrowhead Stadium, we'd have a pretty good shot.

"Plus, our guys' fights have sometimes involved weapons - a knife, a flashlight, stuff like that. The Chiefs' have been mainly fists. We figure the weapons would help us if they send a bunch of 330-pounders."
